MIKE DEAN EXPLAINS WHY HE'S QUITTING PREMIER LEAGUE AS REF DENIES BEING OFFERED VAR ROLE

Mike Dean has opened up on his decision to retire from refereeing in Premier League

The 53-year-old is arguably the most recognisable referee currently operating at the top of the English game, with his unique approach making him both highly controversial and must-watch in the same measure.  Dean has refereed 553 Premier League matches since his introduction to the top division back in 2000.

Mike Dean will bring the curtain down on his 22 year career as a Premier League refree at the end of the season.  Mike Dean admitted that "the times are ahead" because he revealed he reasons behind his decision to abandon his position as a Premier League referee at the end of the season.  Officials also dismissed speculation that he was offered the role of VAR as he plans to conclude and end his 22 year refereeing career this summer.
